- Upside down is the one orientaion most hard drives don't like. For
- one thing, that places the spindle oil reservoir on top. And, while
- it doesn't hold an amount that could be termed liquid, it would tend
- to enhance any lubricant migration downward, and therefore on out
- onto the platters which would be a disaster. Also the thrust
- bearings in that direction aren't (normally) near as effective.

- The end result will be shorter drive life, alltho, with a 40 megger
- that has to be 6-8 years old now, you really haven't lost that much
- when it goes. Its "paid" its dues.
